A'Keisha Lee was born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago. A'Keisha came to work for MAMAS while organizing to divest from Cook County Jail and invest in community-affirming resources.

A'Keisha began organizing against expanding jails and prisons while studying public health at Saint Louis University. Upon completing a Master's in Health Policy, she returned to the Chicago land area. She joined the fights for pretrial fairness, an end to permanent punishment for previously incarcerated individuals, and mental health parity.

Alongside her role at MAMAS, A'Keisha is a full-time policy analyst, a Perceptions Theater Company board member, and a performing artist.

A'Keisha is thrilled to join the MAMAS team as MAMAS provides a unique opportunity to blend her love for storytelling and commitment to prison abolition.
